So here’s the Partially Automated Eco-Narco Socialist future: instead of endless growth to make more and more unsustainable material goods requiring more and more extraction, the world will be one of hedonistic farmers who are high all the time and nurturing mega-acres of lush narcotic flora. With so much pleasure in such abundance, humans will find perfect harmony with the Earth, and all desires will be fulfilled if not obliterated entirely by heroin.
LIL INTERNET: So because solar panels got efficient and cheap, what people would do in Afghanistan is: in places where previously they couldn't grow poppies, they would dig a well and then set up solar panels and have a solar panel-powered pump that would irrigate the fields. And poppy production exploded because solar power enabled people to just go to places where normally there was not a source of water, or the source of water was too expensive; [allowed them to] build a well, have a solar powered pump, and be able to grow poppies.
